Lettuce to me is one of the easiest things to grow as long as you have the right environment. Lettuce loves water and nutrients. I grow lettuce just about year-round, even in the heat of the summer. I just find a good spot that is shaded from the afternoon sun. Today, I just want to share a new way that I'm growing lettuce this year. It's an addition to the garden. I found these grow bags on Amazon that I decided to try. Click on this link: https://amzn.to/3ZJ8gWZ to see or order this product. Anyhow, I ordered them and decided to try some lettuce and a few other plants in them. I knew that they would only hold about four or five plants, but that was okay with me. I needed something that I could move around in the summer to escape the afternoon sun. These looked to be the perfect thing. I mixed my potting soil, chicken fertilizer, and leaf mulch as usual and filled each bag. Before I added the lettuce plants that I had already started from seed, I wet the bag down for a couple days to saturate the mixture together and activate the fertilizer. Then I planted five Romaine Lettuce plants in each container, evenly spaced. I watered again really good and sat them where they would get the morning sun only for a few days. I wanted my little plants to take root good in their new home. I water these plants every day by hand, because I wasn't sure how these pots would hold moisture. They are made of clothe material and do dry out faster than pots made of plastic or other materials, but they really are great for moving. They are made with handles and if you are like me, I enjoy being out in my garden doing things and watching how the plants grow and thrive. This is my enjoyment and why I call this my "Garden Therapy." Next year, I will attach the sprinkler tubes to these pots now that I know how they are for moisture containment. The plants are coming along beautifully, and I am on the verge of harvesting them. I would highly recommend these pots to anyone. Also, lettuce is not the only thing that I grow in them. I have beautiful Brussel Sprouts, Spinach, and Collards in them too! This is the link to the 5 Gallon Grow Bags: https://amzn.to/3ZJ8gWZ.

Welcome to My Garden Some people may wonder why it is called a Secret Garden. My home is in the middle of eighty acres, and the house is shaped like a capital H with the front legs half cut off. The back side consist of patios, decks, and a pool area that are basically hidden from site. This makes the patio garden very secluded. I decided to fill the swimming pool in and expand the little garden patio to the enclosed area that was the pool. This gave the garden a pretty fenced in area. The picket fence would also protect my vegetable garden from those four-legged friends that enjoy coming to visit. The garden is filled with all varieties of flowers and vegetables. It has a few palms, because of my love for the ocean, and they remind me of that little breath of fresh air when I can't be there too. I guess you could say, I am blessed to be able to have the best of both worlds, country living and Gulf air.
